Today was such a good day. I haven't had a day like today in a LONG time. Granted, I'm tired now, and feel like I need to get going into the grind again and just want to crash into bed, but today was just great!
It started off with some good songs at church, even including a couple of hymns!!! (Just for the record, in the service I go to, hymns are very rarely sung. I think I sang one all the way through this whole last year). After that, some friends wanted to go out for lunch, but I sure can't afford to, so I opted out. So instead of going for lunch, a couple of girls (Angela and Latisha) and I went for a long walk to a park, and some of the guys (Kevin, Andrew and Adam) met up with us there after picking up some food. We had TONS of fun eating Subway (the guys bought extra for us), prancing through and throwing leaves at each other, and exploring the trails. What made it even more fun for me was that I was wearing my favorite blue flowing skirt which makes me feel like a princess. So, gorgeous trees with all different shades of yellow, orange and red, and off-the-beaten-path trails in my princess skirt and running shoes with fun friends made for an almost perfect thanksgiving afternoon. We went on adventures, balanced on fallen trees, climbed steep inclines, and carefully side-stepped around mud puddles. What made it even better was the destiny Andrew led us to: big boulders hugging the river bank with enough room between to skip over water from rock to rock. Just for the record: rocks beside water is one of my most favorite settings to be in in the whole world. It was great. If the river had actually been the ocean, it would have been perfect! We threw rocks in the water, sat and enjoyed the autumn afternoon, read some of Philippians (actually, it ended up being all of Philippians...so good)... and the sun came peeking through the vanishing clouds to shine down right on us. I felt like I could just embrace everything out there...the water, the rocks, the trees, the sky, my friends, God...all at once... I just wanted to skip and laugh... it's a feeling I haven't had for a long time. And to make the afternoon even better, I talked with my friend Myriam who just had her second baby two days ago (Joel Jeremiah), had a very lovely and relaxing afternoon dinner with my family (including my grandparents), found out that my friends Nancy and Steve are expecting, and for desert I had both apple pie AND pumpkin pie with ice cream! Picture me smiling right now.....
So, I am very thankful this thanksgiving for the day God gave me... for every good and perfect gift that came from Him. It was a day that was focused on Him, rejoicing in Him, and resting in Him. Hopefully I can put up some pictures of the day (if they turned out), and you can enjoy it all with me. Sometimes today I thought of how there are so many people who aren't enjoying thanksgiving for many reasons, but I knew that this was a gift God gave specifically to me, for me to enjoy and live in... a gift to escape even more from my tired mind and messed up emotions. I didn't need to feel guilty that I had it so good because it was His gift. It was a day spent with Him, to share with some people that I love, and as one of my friends aptly put while walking through the leaves: "This is what Heaven must be like." Although we also established at that point that in Heaven we wouldn't have sunburns, but instead we would have Sonburns because of God's glory. Ha... to give a taste of the laughter of the day...you can groan if you want, but I think it's funny.

Happy thanksgiving lovie!
We don't really have it here- Drew missed the Turkey and the pumpkin pie! However we do have a 'harvest festival' on the same day, but these celebrations are limited to bringing a item on food to church- these are then collected and given to the eldery and poor. The new church that drew and I go to make an extra effort though. The worship band has a special song that thanks god for each person and the item of food as they bring it to the alter. Because this practice is unique o this church, our friend Duncan was quite embarrassed when 'Duncan's brought a tin of no frills ECONOMY potatoes, Praise the Lord!' was sang out across the church! He felt so cheap! I think the church do it so the congregation bring nice thing- so the poor recipiants get a better deal!
have a lovely week, I am sure you (my fellow nature lover) are enjoying the wealth of colours upon the autumn trees xx
Your thanksgiving day sounds wonderful, all you needed were pig tails in you hair. Just a note there are some pictures up on my fridge from the sleepover, seriously every time I look at them I nearly break down laughing thinking about that evening. I am also going to attempt to make those SKORE BAR things that you are soo good at making.
